This is my last ‘From the Pastor’s Desk’ as Pastor of St. Peter’s in The Dalles.

Last Sunday was the farewell party and I was touched by the expressions of gratitude that I received, expressions of gratitude that were not just routine but said in effect, “We have heard you, Father, and have benefited from your ministry here and so grown closer to God.” That is the sort of gratitude that a priest wants to hear.

Now looking back over my nine years here and knowing that while I have sought to bring you Jesus Christ, as a priest should, in my human weakness I have often let my ego get in the way. If on that account I have injured anyone by my words or deeds, I beg your forgiveness. So also if anyone thinks they might have hurt or offended me in anyway, know that I forgive you from my heart.

The Lord now sends me to minister to another portion of his flock but know that I will carry you in my heart before the altar of God.

Now I ask you to welcome Fr. Steve Garza as your new pastor; pray for him that he may have the grace, wisdom, and courage to guide this parish according to the mind of Christ.

Fr. Joseph Levine graduated from Thomas Aquinas College and after a long journey was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Baker, Oregon. He currently serves as pastor of St. Peter Catholic Church in The Dalles on the Columbia River.
