Currently our program focuses on the preparation of children for the Sacraments of Reconciliation, First Holy Communion and Confirmation. All preparation classes are based on Whole Family Catechesis with parents being the primary teachers of their children and support from our parish catechists to help clarify concepts, teachings and points through regularly scheduled meetings where parents can come and have time to ask questions and bring their children as well for clarification. This is a change from the “Sacramental Prep Class” model where children were dropped off for a one hour class and then picked up at the end.
All families are expected to work through the Student Text and Activity Books for content that will help to instill and reinforce the Faith. There are two sets of books to work through for each program. Reconciliation and First Communion use the Faith and Life Series Level 1 – Our Heavenly Father & Level 2 – Jesus Our Life. For Confirmation families are expected to work through the Faith and Life Series Level 5 – I Believe and Level 7 – The Life of Grace. There are Spanish Textbooks available for each of these as well.
Teaching the basics of the Faith in cooperation with attending Mass regularly and participating in the regular reception of the Sacraments will help to build a deeper understanding of the Faith and a deeper relationship with God.

Children who are looking to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion must be 6 years of age when beginning the preparation process. Our preparation program is a two year process with students receiving their First Holy Communion in the Spring of their Level 2 year.
For children who are looking to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, it is also a two year process. The Bishop confers Confirmation every two years on the even year in our parish (ie 2022, 2024, 2026) usually in the Spring. Exact dates for the reception of the sacrament are always determined by the Bishop.
Registration for Confirmation is always the Fall of the even year and then closed until the Fall of the next even year (For example: Fall of 2022 was registration for Confirmation in Spring or Summer of 2024, registration in the Fall of 2024 will be for the reception of the Sacrament Confirmation in the Spring or Summer of 2026). All Candidates must be in 5th -11th grades at the time of registration in order to register for the Sacrament.
